The Vibe

Alfamar feels spacious, relaxed and less concentrated than the busiest Acoteias entrances. Families, walkers and resort visitors use the main access, while long stretches of connected sand make it easy to find more room. The beach remains strongly scenic without feeling isolated from services.

Atlantic swell, wind and shifting sandbars influence the whole frontage. Higher tide reduces the safe strip beneath the cliffs, and the rock base should never be used as dependable shade. The supervised section provides the clearest local guidance, while ramps, paths and barriers should be respected throughout the approach.

The day starts at 21°C under mostly clear skies. Morning temperatures hold steady until 11am. Winds pick up slightly by mid-morning, blowing from the southeast at 9 km/h, gusting to 17. By afternoon, temperatures rise to 29°C, with winds shifting to the south-southeast at 14 km/h, gusting to 26. Evening sees temperatures drop to 27°C, with winds decreasing to 8 km/h from the south, gusting to 21. Nighttime brings calm conditions, with winds at 3 km/h from the west-northwest, gusting to 6.

The ocean is calm, with waves at 0.3m, suitable for all swimmers. Water temperature is 19.7°C. Wear a spring suit or rashie. Conditions remain consistent throughout the day, with waves holding at 0.3m until early afternoon, then increasing slightly to 0.4m. The sea remains safe for swimming all day.

About Falesia Alfamar

Falesia Alfamar occupies an eastern section of the long Falesia beach where the high coloured cliffs begin to lower towards Rocha Baixinha and Vilamoura. Its broad sand, quieter access and layered red-and-cream backdrop create a scenic transition between cliff coast and dune-backed shore.

The Local Anchor

The Alfamar and Acoteias resort areas provide accommodation, restaurants and road access from above. Falesia Acoteias lies west, while Rocha Baixinha Poente and the lower dune coast continue east towards Vilamoura.

The pedestrian approach descends through pine and cliff vegetation before reaching the sand. Choosing the correct access matters because the beach system is long and returning by road may be far less direct than walking along the shore.

The Landscape

Fine golden sand lies below layered cliffs streaked with red, orange, cream and white. Eastward, the escarpment gradually becomes lower and gives way to dune ridges; westward, the cliff wall rises more dramatically.

Morning and evening offer cooler walking conditions and stronger colour. Falesia Alfamar is defined by transition: coloured cliffs, broad Atlantic sand and the gradual change towards the flatter Rocha Baixinha landscape. The section is especially useful for visitors who want the Falesia scenery with a slightly quieter approach than the main Acoteias access. Early arrival makes the ramp and parking easier, while evening gives the lower cliffs and open shore a softer appearance. Natural shade is scarce once visitors reach the open sand.
