About Porto Santo - Ribeiro Salgado
The Vibe
Ribeiro Salgado feels calm, organised and strongly shaped by nearby hotels. Guests cross landscaped grounds and wooden walkways to reach the beach, while walkers from other sections pass along the uninterrupted sand. The atmosphere is refined without becoming physically enclosed.
The south coast is often gentler than Madeira's exposed volcanic shores, but wind, waves and currents still change. The broad upper beach offers little natural shade, and distances along the continuous sand can be deceptive in heat. The recognised bathing section and seasonal facilities provide the clearest framework.

The Setting
About Ribeiro Salgado
Ribeiro Salgado is a named section of Porto Santo's long golden beach, positioned in front of major hotel gardens west of Vila Baleira. Its fine sand, warm-looking water and dune boardwalks create a polished resort setting within the island's continuous south-coast shoreline.
The Local Anchor
The beach lies in front of two established resort properties whose concessions and walkways define the main access. Vila Baleira remains the island's cultural and practical centre, with restaurants, shops and the Christopher Columbus House farther east.
Cabeco da Ponta and other named sections continue along the same shore. Visitors should choose access by location rather than assuming every part of Porto Santo Beach has identical facilities.
The Landscape
Fine golden sand extends below low dunes and landscaped hotel grounds. The sea often appears turquoise against the pale shore, while the island's dry hills remain visible inland.
The beach's appeal comes from continuity rather than dramatic cliffs. Morning offers cooler walking conditions and quieter water. Ribeiro Salgado is defined by comfort and openness: resort access, dune boardwalks and a broad golden shoreline forming part of Porto Santo's signature beach. The section is especially convenient for visitors who want Porto Santo's open beach without the busier town-centre backdrop. Evening walks are attractive, but anyone travelling far along the sand should allow enough light and energy for the return to the correct boardwalk. The low dunes also soften the hotel frontage. Evening conditions are often especially pleasant.
