Atlantic swell, currents, shore break and changing sandbars can be powerful. Wind can rise quickly, and the cliff base should not be used as shelter because erosion and falling material remain possible. Water use should be conservative, with visitors carrying everything needed for a remote day and leaving enough energy for the return.

The temperature starts at 19°C and rises steadily to 31°C by late afternoon before falling to 24°C this evening. It feels cooler than the actual temperature all day due to wind. Winds are light early on but strengthen throughout the day, coming from the southeast and gusting up to 36 km/h. The sky remains partly cloudy. Morning temperatures feel like 18°C with winds at 7 km/h from the east-southeast. By mid-morning, temperatures reach 29°C feeling like 28°C with winds picking up to 12 km/h from the south-southeast. Waves build slightly throughout the day, peaking at 1.6m from the northwest. Evening temperatures fall to 24°C with winds dropping to 6 km/h from the north-northwest.

The ocean has active surf with waves reaching waist to chest height. Swimming is suitable for strong swimmers only. Water temperature is 18.2°C. A spring suit will keep you comfortable. Snorkelers should stay close to shore due to wave activity. Divers should expect good visibility but strong currents. Anglers can expect good conditions for shore fishing, with bait fish likely to be present in the surf zone.

About Praia de Vale Figueiras

Praia de Vale Figueiras lies on Aljezur's exposed western coast within the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park. Reached by a rural road through open countryside, its broad sand, dark cliffs and strong Atlantic character create a remote beach with very little built development.

The Local Anchor

Aljezur is the nearest town and provides shops, accommodation and a historic centre below its hilltop castle. The beach sits between the better-known areas of Arrifana and Carrapateira, though access remains through quieter rural roads.

The Rota Vicentina crosses the wider protected landscape, linking beaches, valleys and farming ground. Seasonal support is limited and should not be assumed outside the main period.

The Landscape

Pale sand runs beneath high dark-grey and ochre cliffs, with an uninterrupted western horizon dominated by surf. Low scrub and agricultural land occupy the plateau above, while narrow valleys cut through the rock.

Cloud, mist and sunset transform the cliff colours quickly. Vale Figueiras is defined by exposure and solitude: rural approach, long beach, powerful Atlantic and a protected natural setting on Aljezur's quieter southern coast. The rural road and final approach can feel long, making a light setup more practical than extensive beach equipment. Early morning often brings lighter wind, while evening creates strong colour across the layered cliffs and uninterrupted western horizon. Mobile coverage and roadside assistance may be less dependable.
